Reconnect with Nature at the Waiheke Walking Festival
Looking for the perfect excuse to escape the everyday and immerse yourself in nature? Come and do some Waiheke walks.
Plan a walking holiday!
The Waiheke Walking Festival offers a chance to explore the island’s breathtaking coastal trails, lush vineyards, and hidden bushwalks. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a leisurely scenic stroll, this festival has something for everyone.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss It
The Waiheke Walking Festival is more than just a series of walks; it’s an opportunity to reconnect with nature, recharge your mind and body, and experience Waiheke’s stunning landscapes in a whole new way. The curated programme features a variety of guided walks, taking in most Waiheke Island walking trails. These Waiheke hikes range from relaxed coastal strolls to more challenging walks. Some are paired with wine tastings, local history insights, and wildlife encounters.

Personal Experience: Walking with Friends and Meeting New People
As a regular walker on Waiheke Island, I took part in the festival this year. It was wonderful to meet new people, both solo travellers and friend groups, all enjoying some gentle exercise while soaking in the breathtaking vistas. Some walkers were preparing for more ambitious adventures like the New Zealand Great Walks or the Camino Trail. The fitness levels varied, but we all reached the end feeling accomplished and invigorated.
One of the unique aspects of the festival is that organisers often secure access to additional walks across private land, sometimes paired with vineyard meals or exclusive guided experiences.
